Field scanning on a tablet

Collector

Run two scanners from one tablet, and check the registration before you leave the site.

Collector is a touch-first Windows tablet app for the field. Run one or two Trimble X7 scanners, pull each station as it finishes, register the network on site, and hand Surveyor a project it opens as-is.

Standouts

Why Collector.

2 × X7

Two scanners, one tablet, one project

Run two Trimble X7 scanners from one tablet. Stations are numbered across both in capture order, and the day ends with one registered network.

Proven or flagged

Field registration that refuses to guess

Starting positions from the scanner's sensors or the previous setup are only proposals. A station is marked registered only when its links prove it, links are graded pass or marginal, and separate statistics for each scanner expose any bias between them.

Fail-safe

Scanner connections that stay safe

Each scanner's traffic is locked to its own Wi-Fi adapter and stops rather than rerouting, the scanner's identity is proven before any command, and Collector never changes scanner Wi-Fi settings, aborts, deletes or formats.

Built for fingers, not a mouse

Every control is sized and tested for bare-finger touch, with an offset magnifier for precise picks in the field.

A hand-off Surveyor trusts

Surveyor opens the same project, re-solves it to the same residuals and applies the georeference, so the office starts where the field finished.

Pulls that resume

Each station is pulled in two stages as the scan completes, and an interrupted transfer resumes from where it stopped.

Overview

Know the job is complete before you leave the site.

Collector keeps registration in the field. Each station is pulled and placed as the crew works, so a missing or weak station shows up while the scanner is still on the tripod.

Two scanners, one operator

Connect one or two Trimble X7 scanners, start scans with the scanner's own presets, and pull each station's data to the tablet.

Registration that refuses to guess

Stations are registered on site, and a placement Collector cannot prove is listed as needing placement rather than accepted.

A project Surveyor opens

Collector writes a Surveyor project, so the office picks up where the field left off.

Features

What Collector does.

Connect

A verified link to each scanner

Bind a Wi-Fi adapter to each scanner, join its hotspot, prove the scanner's identity, and run read-only Wi-Fi and setup checks before you start.

  • One adapter per scanner
  • Scanner identity checked before any command
Capture

Run the scanners from the tablet

Use the scanner's own presets and color imaging, start scanner A then B, queue the next scan, pull scans started on the scanner itself, and watch the storage budget.

  • Scanner presets and color images
  • Start A, then B, with a one-deep queue
  • Storage budget at a glance
Stations

One list for the whole day

One station list across both scanners with Retry and Place, plus import from a .tzf folder or card.

  • Global station numbering
  • Retry and Place per station
Register

Register while you are still on site

A field QA card, a dry network check, and a refine you confirm. Links are graded pass or marginal, with statistics for each scanner and across both.

  • Field QA card and dry check
  • Pass and marginal link grades
  • Per-scanner and cross-scanner statistics
Review

See the job on a map and in 3D

A plan view of stations and graded links, and a touch viewer with a limit box and Z slab. Every measurement records how each point was found.

  • Plan view with graded links
  • Touch 3D viewer with limit box and Z slab
Georeference

Tie the network to control

Key in or import control, solve, and apply it to the station positions. Anything that would change units or need a baked file is left to Surveyor.

Deliver

Hand off to the office

Write a Surveyor project, structured E57 as one file or one per station, LAS or LAZ, or just the limit box, with station panoramas as JPEG and a SHA-256 for every file.

  • Surveyor project, E57, LAS and LAZ
  • Station panoramas with checksums
  • Pack & Go
Alerts and sessions

Stay ahead of problems

Fifteen kinds of alert with thresholds you set by touch. Exiting is never refused, and a restart resumes where you left off.

Questions

About Collector.

Which scanners does Collector support?

Trimble X7 scanners on firmware R2.6.x. Collector can run one or two at the same time.

Do I need Surveyor too?

Collector captures and registers in the field; Surveyor is where the project is extracted, checked and delivered. The Founders license includes both.

Can Collector change my scanner's settings?

No. Collector sends scanners only commands from a short allow-list, and changing Wi-Fi settings, aborting, deleting and formatting are not on it.

Get Collector

Finish registration before the crew leaves.

Collector is part of the launch release and is included in every Founders license.
